Import Customs Manager

Location: Colnbrook

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:00 (30-minute lunch), 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £47,000+ (Negotiable depending on experience) Benefit Package Bonus

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Import Customs Manager to lead a busy import department and ensure the compliant, accurate, and efficient clearance of all inbound shipments. This hands-on role requires proven import expertise, strong leadership, and in-depth knowledge of UK customs processes.

You'll be responsible for managing the end-to-end import customs operation, working closely with HMRC, overseeing a skilled team, and ensuring that all clearances are completed on time, in full compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four import & cargo customs specialists.
  • Act as the main contact for customs-related queries from customers, authorities, and internal teams.
  • Hands-on processing of import customs entries (CDS) for courier and cargo shipments.
  • Ensure accurate goods classification (HS codes), valuation, and origin declarations.
  • Manage Deferment and FAS account reconciliation on a monthly basis.
  • Oversee low-value bulk clearance (BIRDS/LVBI) and high-value clearances.
  • Ensure correct procedures for CITES shipments are followed.
  • Maintain and update internal customs systems (Customs Central / ASM Sequoia).
  • Process job creation, billing, and customs documentation using Boxtop.
  • Keep up to date with customs legislation changes and ensure team compliance.
About You

Essential:

  • Strong background in import customs operations.
  • Proficient in processing customs entries using ASM Sequoia or Descartes (e-customs).
  • Experience with CITES, BIRDS, and LVBI procedures.
  • ETSF knowledge and BI to shed experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
  • Proven management/leadership experience.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Desirable
  • End-to-end export customs clearance experience.
  • MOU & AEO experience.
