Job summary

SP Energy Networks, part of the Iberdrola Group, is seeking a Design Engineer (OHL) in Glasgow/Cambuslang to drive pre-contract design information for overhead line projects up to 400 kV. You will develop specifications, review drawings, and ensure safety, quality, and environmental compliance across the project lifecycle.

You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, implement best practices, and contribute to Scotland's Net Zero goals.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or HND with practical experience.
• Significant experience in Transmission network Overhead Lines and associated equipment.
• Experience delivering designs for high-value, complex Transmission Overhead Line projects.
• Strong written reports and technical documentation skills.
• Effective communication across departments and with senior management.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of developing pre-contract design information and provide technical guidance for project delivery teams, focusing on OHL systems.
• Prepare detailed engineering specifications and designs for high-value transmission projects, ensuring compliance with legislation and requirements.
• Review drawings and technical specifications for construction, procurement and stakeholders; define equipment requirements for System Construction Authorisation.
• Assist with resolving site and construction issues; provide technical expertise to Pre-Contract and Project Delivery teams on Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance.
• Prepare project quality documentation and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice within a design environment.
