Job summary

SP Energy Networks in Glasgow/Cambuslang area is seeking a Design Engineer (OHL) to shape Scotland's energy infrastructure. You will lead pre-contract design and deliver detailed specs for high-value transmission projects from 33kV to 400kV.

Reporting to the OH Engineering Section Head, you will apply engineering knowledge across project lifecycles, comply with safety standards, and help drive Net Zero goals. Hybrid role with an attractive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• You ideally hold a degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or HND with practical experience.
• Significant experience in Transmission Overhead Lines projects is essential.
• Strong written reports and concise technical documentation are required.
• Experience using Overhead Line design software is preferable.

Responsibilities

• Develop pre-contract design information and provide technical guidance for delivery teams.
• Prepare detailed engineering specs and designs for high-value transmission projects.
• Define equipment requirements for System Construction Authorisation and Project Technical Specifications.
• Review overhead line drawings and specifications for construction and procurement.
• Support resolution of site and construction issues.
• Provide CDM/Health & Safety guidance within a design environment.

Providing technical expertise to Pre-Contract and Project Delivery teams on matters concerning D esign, C onstruction, O peration and M aintenance of O verhead L ine systems, you will also prepare project quality documentation, ensuring all deliverables meet SP Energy Networks quality processes and standards.Driving innovation and industry best practice is essential. You will evaluate new technologies, equipment, materials and alternative working methods to deliver cost savings, improve efficiencies and enhance safety outcomes. Working across global multidisciplinary Engineering teams, you will contribute to integrated, end-to-end solutions that keep our T ransmission network operating reliably and efficiently.What you'll bringYou will ideally hold a degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or HND with equivalent practical experience and be working towards membership of a professional institution.Significant experience in an Engineering position focused on Transmission network Overhead Lines and associated equipment is essential. You must demonstrate proven capability in delivering Engineering solutions and Designs for high-value, complex Transmission Overhead Line projects.Effective communication skills are required, along with the ability to build productive working relationships across departments and businesses. You will need the capability to implement and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice within a Design environment, representing departments or project teams on Overhead Line Engineering issues, evaluations, standards and industry best practice.The ability to write clear, concise reports and technical documents is essential, as is the capability to communicate with and influence Senior Management.
