Job summary

SSEN Transmission in Scotland is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple HVDC projects, setting direction for converters and protection equipment, and governing standards and long-term engineering decisions.

The role offers flexible first working options with base locations across Scotland, Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness, and may consider Senior Engineer for strong candidates.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartered status.
• Expert in HVDC design, specification, construction, operation and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Write and own HVDC specifications and guidance for converters and protection equipment.
• Provide technical guidance for HVDC network development, refurbishment or fault investigations.
• Lead supplier engagement and evaluation of new HVDC technologies.
• Review test plans and witness tests as HVDC Technical Authority.
• Provide SME input to design reviews and verify project proposals.
