About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to join our team at a well-established housing developer covering south of the country from Birmingham below. The business is a traditional family‑owned timber frame developer who have been in the industry for over 40 years and have recently been acquired by a UK‑wide known developer. Although being acquired they still provide their excellent services to previous clients they had worked with, so no two projects will be the same. This role has an autonomous element to it as you will be working individually but collaboratively with internal and external teams.

We are looking for someone to serve as the regional focal point, driving continuous improvement, compliance, and building a strong safety culture across all operations, thus including three manufacturing sites and up to 20 or more smaller projects on the go at one time. They will be working collaboratively with management teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to standards and deliver measurable improvements in HSE performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead HSE initiatives and promote continuous improvement across all sites and departments.
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE standards, management systems, and legal requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the company's HSE improvement and management plans including policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Provide expert HSE advice during tendering, pre‑start meetings, and project planning.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits, ensuring timely action closure.
  • Visit sites regularly to coach teams and uphold high HSE standards.
  • Prepare and communicate HSE performance reports and bulletins.
  • Oversee accident and incident reporting and investigations.
Person Specification
  • Demonstrable experience in Housebuilding, Timber Frame and Manufacturing environments (all three would be desirable).
  • NEBOSH Construction preferred (General considered with relevant experience).
  • Strong understanding of CDM, principal contractor duties, and HSE regulations.
  • Comfortable leading investigations and guiding site teams on best practice.
  • Happy with travelling across the South of the country for sites (Birmingham and below).
