Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a Rail Systems Lead Design Manager to drive integration and coordination of rail systems across HS2 track infrastructure projects. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage design interfaces, and ensure safety and governance standards are met throughout the design lifecycle.

The role requires extensive rail systems design experience, strong stakeholder management, and a Chartered Engineer level of professional attainment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in rail systems design, integration, and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience working within contractor-led, design and build or alliance delivery environments is preferred
• Experience working within large-scale rail infrastructure programmes.
• Experience managing external design organisations and consultant teams
• Strong understanding of design management processes within major rail or infrastructure projects.
• Experience managing design interfaces and spatial coordination in complex environments.
• Knowledge of technical assurance, systems engineering, and safety assurance principles.
• Understanding of Health and Safety in Design requirements and industry best practice.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate technical interfaces between Track systems, Main Works Contractors and Alliance members.
• Lead spatial coordination of rail systems designs and manage design clashes.
• Chair and facilitate design coordination meetings and reviews with stakeholders.
• Monitor and report design progress and ensure delivery per client requirements and milestones.
• Coordinate and promote Health and Safety in Design across disciplines.
• Ensure designs are reviewed, verified, and validated per governance requirements.
