Job summary

SMT Corp. is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support the HS2 project, servicing Volvo construction equipment across southern sections and site locations including Coventry, Solihull, Warwick and Birmingham.

The role requires NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent, and drives to travel between sites with a focus on uptime and customer satisfaction. You will diagnose faults, perform diagnostics, servicing, and repairs in field environments, while maintaining safety and high workmanship

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Maintenance, or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant, with knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, drivetrains, electrics, and diagnostic systems.
• Advanced fault-finding and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
• Strong communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to build effective working relationships.
• A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel, work overtime, and support customer requirements when needed.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out diagnostics, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on Volvo construction equipment and other machinery.
• Identifying and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related faults using technical expertise and diagnostic tools.
• Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, providing updates on machine status, repair progress, and recommended actions.
• Completing all job documentation, inspection reports, timesheets, and electronic records accurately and in real time.
• Maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, housekeeping, and compliance with company and site procedures.
