Job summary

SMT GB is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support the HS2 project across Coventry, Solihull, Warwick, Birmingham and surrounding areas. The role involves servicing, diagnosing and repairing Volvo construction equipment on HS2 sites, with a focus on uptime and reliability.

You’ll work independently at customer sites, apply strong mechanical and diagnostic skills, and ensure compliance with safety procedures while delivering excellent service and reporting.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Maintenance, or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant, with strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, drivetrains, electrics, and diagnostic systems.
• Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel, overtime, and support customer requirements when needed.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, diagnose, and repair Volvo construction equipment on HS2 project sites.
• Work independently with customers to maximize machine uptime and reliability.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine faults using diagnostic tools and manuals.
• Provide updates on machine status, repair progress, and recommended actions to customers.
• Complete all job documentation, inspection reports, timesheets, and electronic records in real time.
• Maintain safety, professionalism, and compliance with site procedures.
