Our client has a diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2 which has profoundly weakened her voluntary muscles. She is a full-time powered wheelchair user, with a compromised respiratory system and nutrition met via a gastrostomy. Her hobbies include watching Crystal Palace Football Team, Formula 1, listening to music and Netflix, Disney+. She leads a very active social life and enjoys going out to social events, such as parties, pubs and nights out.
As written by her: “I am a young female and although I am in a wheelchair I still like to get out and about and be a social butterfly; it would be important to me for my carers to not only be there for me but also enjoy and be involved in whatever we are doing. Sometimes I like to have my own space and be given some privacy, so as long as I am comfortable, and you are at the other end of the phone I can be left alone in my room or with friends when out. My appearance is very important to me, and I like to make decisions on outfits I wear, hair styles etc; it would be useful if you could do hair. I like watching Netflix, YouTube and Disney+ when there is no sport on the TV.”
To apply, please submit a cover letter describing your interests and explaining why you would be a suitable candidate for this unique and rewarding position.
Full training in the client’s particular needs will be provided, making this an ideal opportunity for individuals without previous care experience. You will also have on-call support from our client coordinator team.
