Health & Safety Advisor - Major Highways Project | Penrith | £55,000

Be the safety lead on a landmark highways scheme in Cumbria. You will be stepping into a key Health & Safety Advisor role on a major highways project, where your expertise will directly influence site standards, workforce wellbeing and successful project delivery. If you want responsibility, visibility and long-term security, this Health & Safety Advisor position offers all three.

You will be supporting a well-established contractor delivering a high-profile highways infrastructure project in the Penrith area. The business has a strong pipeline of work across highways and civil engineering, with a reputation for investing in people, promoting best practice and maintaining excellent safety performance across its sites.

What you will be doing day to day
  • Advising site and project teams on all Health & Safety matters across a major highways project
  • Carrying out site inspections, audits and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with HSG, CDM and company standards
  • Supporting accident and near-miss investigations and implementing corrective actions
  • Delivering toolbox talks, briefings and safety inductions
  • Monitoring subcontractor compliance and promoting a positive, proactive safety culture
  • Working closely with project management to drive continuous improvement in Health & Safety performance
What you’ll need to bring
  • Proven experience within highways, infrastructure or civil engineering
  • A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
  • A strong understanding of CDM Regulations and highways safety standards
  • Confidence communicating with site teams at all levels
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach to Health & Safety
