Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Location: Middlesbrough

Hours: 8:15-15:30 full time (term time)

AK Teaching are currently supporting a special needs school based in Middlesbrough who are seeking a passionate and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

The school is rated 'Good' by Ofsted and has a great reputation. The curriculum provided meets both academic and individual special educational needs. Pupils are supported in developing independence and skills they need to be a successful part of the community.

The school caters to children aged from 3 to 19 years old and all have a diagnosis for ASD. Children are cognitively delayed and are working at a lower ability.

This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students with special educational needs (SEN). The role involves working closely with teachers and other professionals to support students with Autism.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work alongside the class teacher to plan and deliver tailored lessons for students with SEN.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support for students with a variety of learning needs, including autism, ADHD, physical disabilities, and speech and language needs.
  • Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and parents.
  • Support students during lunch, break times, and extracurricular activities, ensuring their social and emotional needs are met.
  • Help to create a positive and inclusive learning environment by managing classroom behaviour and supporting students in building social skills.
Requirements:
  • HLTA qualification (or equivalent), or an equivalent level of experience in a special needs education setting.
  • Fully enhanced Child & Adult Barring DBS, or willing to apply for one.
  • Experience working with students with a range of special educational needs, including but not limited to autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and behavioural challenges.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and the importance of a supportive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children with additional needs.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
  • A positive, proactive, and flexible approach to work.
