Job summary

A recruitment agency is seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic to join a well-established commercial vehicle workshop in Thetford. This role involves performing maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on HGVs and trailers, ensuring all vehicles meet safety and compliance standards. The ideal candidate will have NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair and strong diagnostic skills. The hourly rate ranges from £18.00 to £22.00, with overtime available. This position offers stability in a growing company.

  • Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced workshop.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on HGVs and trailers.
  • Complete routine servicing, diagnostics, and fault-finding.
  • Follow the full repair process from initial inspection to completion.
  • Conduct routine checks, safety inspections, and pre-MOT preparation.
  • Work to high standards to ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy.

Location: Thetford

Hourly rate: £18.00-£22.00 + Overtime paid at £27.00-£33.00

Hours: 6am to 2pm week 1 & 2pm to 10pm week 2

Days: Monday to Friday

Overview

We are recruiting an experienced HGV Mechanic to join a busy, well-established commercial vehicle workshop. Due to ongoing growth and new contract wins, our client is expanding their team and looking for a skilled technician to support their service and repair operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out maintenance, repairs and overhauls on a range of HGVs and trailers
  • Complete routine servicing, diagnostics and fault-finding
  • Follow the full repair process from initial inspection to job completion
  • Conduct routine checks, safety inspections and pre-MOT preparation
  • Work to high standards to ensure vehicles are safe, roadworthy and compliant
Requirements
  • Previous experience within an HGV dealership or fleet workshop
  • NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced workshop
