Job summary

A local council in Wolverhampton is seeking an experienced HGV Driver/Loader to deliver waste collection services. The ideal candidate will hold a full HGV Class 2 UK driving licence and current CPC certification. HGV Driver/Loader

Salary - £35,235 – £39,513 (Grade 6)

Hours - 37 hours per week

Contract type - Full time, permanent

Applications are invited from suitably experienced candidates to work in the service group delivering the Councils Waste Collection Service.

You will be an experienced professional HGV driver with experience of operating Waste Services vehicles.

With the ability to use “in-cab” computer systems, applicants will be responsible for updating management of any service issues i.e. accidents/incidents, failure to collect bins, contaminated bins or any other reasons that may hinder the Council meeting its collection and recycling targets.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a GCSE level or equivalent qualification, or have relevant equivalent experience
  • Hold a current full HGV Class 2 UK driving licence
  • Hold a current CPC
  • Have experience of undertaking vehicle checks and following Health and Safety policy and legislation
  • Be able to undertake physically demanding loading duties including manual handling of bins onto a lifting mechanism
  • Demonstrate and promote excellent team working skills, reliability and enthusiasm.
  • Demonstrate and promote excellent customer services skills
  • Be able to work as part of a team ensuring excellent standards are achieved at all times.
  • Share the Councils commitment towards waste minimisation and improved recycling opportunities.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style.Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
