Job summary

Hermes is seeking a HGV Driver Class 1 to join our UK parcel delivery fleet in Peterborough. The role is permanent, 45 hours per week, with night shifts from 17:00-03:00 and 19:00-05:00 on Sundays to Thursdays.

The position offers a competitive salary of £42,798.60 per year plus a nights uplift of 50p per hour worked between 22:00 and 06:00, plus a seasonal allowance of £1.50 per hour up to Christmas Day 2026.

Qualifications

• Class 1 Driving Licence required
• Driver CPC qualification card
• Completed required DCPC training hours or be working toward them
• Excellent knowledge of road transport laws and safety requirements

Responsibilities

• Drive a lorry from our fleet of Volvo vehicles.
• Trunk goods to regional hubs on the night shift.
• Plan routes and ensure timely delivery to customers.
• Inspect vehicle and trailer daily and complete defect reports.

WhatYou’llDo:

You will drive a lorry from our exceptional fleet of Volvo vehicles, all less than 4 years old.They’rea joy to drive, and are equipped to a high specification, including fridges, leatherseatsand many more optional extras to make sureyou’recomfortable.

Most of our sites run from Monday to Friday, with 45 hour working weeks, and9-hourshifts per day which typically start at5/6pm. Our well-organised shift schedules mean you often know in advance whereyou’llbe driving, taking the stress out of your day.

Key Role Responsibilities

Wedon’tmicromanage our drivers. We trust them to get the job done and plan their own routes.This job involves trunking to regional hubs on the night shift. So, if you like the independence of being out on the open road for long stretches - but also want to be home again at the end of every 9-hour shift, this is the job for you.

You’llmake sure Cages, Pallets, Freight, Stillages and Yorks get to and from customers bang on time.At some sites, the goods will be loaded or unloaded for you - at others,you’llneed to do it yourself. Scanning consignments and driving pallet trucks will sometimes be part of your day.

You’llbe responsible forinspecting your vehicle and trailer every day and complete a Defect Report if necessary.
