Overview

We have various hours for Band 3 Health Care Assistants within our Ophthalmic Team which includes Ophthalmic Outpatients / A&E and Pre-op Assessment Service. We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly, flexible and reliable individuals who can use initiative. This is a demanding role and applicants must have experience of working in a hospital setting as a Band 2 in care. Our three departments have an extremely high volume of patients and applicants must be ready to deal with a fast paced patient flow. We are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills, can work alongside a full multi-disciplinary team and can demonstrate passion and empathy to this client group and who wants to make a difference to the quality of our patients lives. Competency based training will be given. Our Health Care Assistants play a vital role within our team. They assist with patient flow within our department by providing ophthalmic assessments to each patient, whilst maintaining patient safety. They carry out investigative and diagnostic procedures. They chaperone the patients during their consultations. They maintain a safe environment for our patients.

You Will Be Expected To Carry Out

  • Visual Acuity assessment
  • Intra-ocular Pressure measurement
  • Instillation of a variety of eyedrops, understanding their pharmaceutical value
  • Visual Field Assessment
  • (Competency based training will be given)

You will be able to contribute towards maintaining an effective patient flow by carrying out the above assessments in an efficient, safe manner for a high volume of patients. You will contribute to and understand the specialist care required for our ophthalmic patients.
