Job summary

A leading manufacturing organization in High Wycombe is seeking a qualified Health & Safety leader to manage SHE systems and develop policies to maintain a safe working environment. The candidate will need to hold a NEBOSH Diploma and have experience in managing SHE legislation within a manufacturing setting. This role offers an opportunity to enhance the safety culture and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Qualifications

  • Hold the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
  • An appropriate Environmental qualification is desirable.
  • Relevant experience in managing SHE in a manufacturing/engineering organization.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be the qualified Health & Safety leader, providing on-site H&S expertise and managing the Safety Management System to maintain a safe working environment and culture. They will also be responsible for developing and managing the Environmental Management System within the site in High Wycombe.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

1. Manage the current SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) management systems, ensuring all areas of the business maintain and improve compliance with SHE legal requirements

2. Lead the work of the Instron SHE Committee

3. Develop improved SHE policy proposals, procedures and work instructions in conjunction with appropriate managers, for consideration by senior managers where appropriate.

4. Ensure detailed risk assessments are carried out, reviewed and maintained for all areas, processes and substances. Provide training to others on how to conduct suitable and sufficient assessments.

5. Work with Instron's management to ensure adequate training and education on SHE issues is provided to all levels of employees. Identify, deliver and evaluate SHE training needs.

6. Monitor the effectiveness of the SHE management systems including conducting audits of SHE procedures and records.

7. Provide SHE advice and support on site projects, layouts and processes.

8. Investigate all reported accidents and incidents and to report any occurrence of RIDDOR regulations to the relevant authorities and escalation internally as required by Instron process.

9. Champion continuous improvement in the behaviour and routine activities of employees to improve the safety culture of the workplace.

10. Represent the organisation with external agencies such as the Health and Safety Executive or Environment Agency.

11. Monitor the site's hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal to confirm that it is disposed of in accordance with legal requirements.

12. Manage Fire Safety across the whole site, liaising with department managers to ensure they adhere to the risk assessed requirements in their areas of responsibility.

13. Provide SHE advice and support to the Field-Based Organisation, including site visits, risk assessments for cars etc.

Key Competencies
  • Strong project management skills with appropriate follow up to ensure accountability for actions.
  • Able to motivate and engage people at all levels to prioritise SHE issues and take actions as required.
  • Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating SHE training / coaching to all levels of staff.
  • Able to relate to and communicate with people at all levels inside and outside of the organisation.
Qualifications
  • Hold the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent). An appropriate Environmental qualification is desirable
Key Experiences
  • Relevant experience in managing SHE, with excellent knowledge of SHE legislation and previous roles as a H&S Competent Person within a manufacturing / engineering organisation.
  • To be able to demonstrate solid understanding of H&S principles and legislation, best practices of adoption, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
