Job description

The Main Outpatient Department at Oldham Hospital holds clinics for many different specialities within several different locations and we are currently looking to recruit a Health Care Assistant to join the existing team.

Suitable candidates should be already in possession of a level 3 certificate or apprenticeship in a health care related subject.

The department provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills and knowledge across a variety of specialities as you are expected to work across all areas with support from registered nurses.

As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person‑centred approach to independence and wellbeing and go the extra mile to ensure compassionate and personalised patient care. In return you will join a supportive team environment and be provided with robust personal development opportunities and an enhanced rate for your services in line with the Agenda for Change framework.

Responsibilities
  • Work within clinics as allocated by the nurse in charge.
  • Support trained staff by assisting in the delivery of care to the patient directly or indirectly.
  • Assist with some nursing duties unaided at the discretion of a trained nurse, following training and assessment of competence.
  • Support the registered staff through the utilisation of knowledge and skills learnt at Level three to provide safe and effective care to patients and support to clinicians.
  • Undertake wound care to include suture removal and dressing changes upon completion of relevant educational pack and assessment of clinical practice to competency level.
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the department team, patients and visitors to the department.
  • Carry out routine and specific procedures required for the day‑to‑day running of the department that do not require the interpretation of diagnostic results.
  • Maintain good standards of cleanliness in the department.
