Job description
Acute and Crisis Directorate: Healthcare Assistant (Mental Health)

As a Healthcare Assistant in the Acute and Crisis Directorate, you will work directly under the supervision of a registered nurse and provide high quality physical and emotional care to patients within the mental health inpatient setting. Your responsibilities include:

  • Assist patients with all activities of daily living including eating, drinking, movement, personal hygiene and use of toilet facilities.
  • Adhere to all organisational and ward policies, procedures and guidelines while maintaining confidentiality and security.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, the multi-disciplinary team and carers, relatives, other professionals and prison health staff.
  • Support patients during admission, discharge, death or personal loss and help them adapt to new environments.
  • Report any changes in a patient’s condition, risks or complaints to the senior nursing staff promptly.
  • Participate in planning and liaison activities, contribute to appraisal and training and develop a personal development plan.
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the grade and as requested by the line manager.
  • Carry a radio and respond as required.
