Job description

The Head of UK COO office is responsible for supporting & implementing the governance structures required to support the UK COO function that supports the London branch business operations and technology. This includes being the ‘right hand’ for the UK COO, supporting logistics such as meetings, committee updates, regulatory updates and acting as their delegate in multiple meetings for both their UK COO / SMF24 and global functional role. They will also support the SMF24 delegation and reasonable steps evidence and operate a number of UK COO activities such as regional legal entity data governance. The role will have extensive liaison with senior leaders across the UK and Global organizations across all lines of defense.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the UK COO in their role, acting as a delegate in some meetings and escalation / monitoring of key communications and initiatives for their UK COO and global functional responsibilities.
  • Lead the UK COO Governance Meeting – chair the meeting, oversee production of meeting materials, agenda, track minutes & actions, manage escalations.
  • Support the UK COO with industry forums, client engagement and other networking engagements. Working with the assistant of the UK COO to ensure appropriate key meetings are in place and represented with correct materials.
  • UK Risk Committees & Boards – supporting the production of materials, interpreting key risk / issues and ensuring accuracy and consistency of reporting working with first line risk and various teams across COO and corporate secretariat.
  • Oversight of the UK COO SMF24 delegated arrangements are defined and maintained, ensure compliance of and evidence maintained of regulatory responsibilities (i.e. reasonable steps). Support any regulatory oversight as required.
  • UK Strategy – work with local COO Management (including GTS) and Global COO organisation identifying key global strategies which support UK. Monitor and report on progress against strategic objectives. Identify execution risk and remediation plans.
  • Audit – work with first line controls team as required ensuring local entity audits are planned and supported successfully.
  • Issues Management – work with first lines controls team and finding owners / remediation plan owners to ensure issues are remediated on time and that any associated risks to local entities are clearly understood and captured in relevant reporting including Archer.
  • Regulatory – work with local management as required to support evolving local regulatory requirements.
  • UK Service Reviews – support local GTS management executing required service reviews ensuring required policies & standards are maintained.
  • Support UK-wide Initiatives – from time to time support legal entity initiatives identified as a Business / COO / Product priority by local management to help ensure successful execution against strategic objectives (i.e Artificial Intelligence, Transfer Agency, Cyber)
  • Outsourcing / Intra-Company Arrangements – support local management to ensure compliance with commitments under any applicable outsourcing policies / regulations.
  • Management Information - Develop, refine and manage appropriate Management Information reporting for UK COO. Work closely with regional project managers and business leads to deliver accurate and timely project reporting, financial forecasting, tracking and reporting.
  • Act as the UK’s data governance lead and ensuring the organization’s data management practices align with regulatory principles and guidelines. Working with nominated BU reps and Global Leads to review Data Governance Policy requirements for SSBT London Branch and provide BU Insights.
  • Documentation : Maintain documentation of all compliance efforts, including policies, procedures, and audit trails.
  • Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate with various stakeholders, including the enterprise IT, data security and data protection, risk management, and business units, to ensure adherence to strategy and regulatory obligations.

Relevant IT or business operating model experience.

The UK Data Governance Lead plays a critical role in ensuring that our organization adheres to the principles and guidelines outlined in the Global Data Governance Policy. This role is responsible for overseeing and implementing data governance practices, data quality controls, and reporting frameworks around our UK critical applications and critical reporting to ensure that the organization’s data management practices are compliant with Regulatory standards.

  • Proven experience in data governance, data management, or compliance roles within the financial industry.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organization skills, with strong influencing skills and an ability to effectively communicate technical issues in plain language.
  • A pragmatic, problem solving mind‑set with an ability to tackle difficult issues related to both operations and projects and guide all parties to an outcome in the best interest and risk appetite of the organization.
  • Project Management skills driving planning and organization across multiple domains.
