Head of Grid Connection – BESS & Solar

Leap29 have a fantastic opportunity which is available to oversee Grid Connections, T&D and interact with Distribution Network Operators for BESS & Solar interconnections across the UK.

The position is on behalf of a well finance IPP company, who have a strong pipeline of activity in England and globally.

The main responsibilities to this role will be:

  • Oversee the design, planning, and execution of grid connection solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with grid codes and technical standards.
  • Supervise grid impact studies, load flow, short-circuit, and dynamic simulations.
  • Evaluate grid stability, reliability, and connection capacity.
  • Interface with transmission/distribution network operators (DNO/TSO). Liaise with National Grid and DNOs for grid connection agreements.
  • Manage permit applications, interconnection agreements, and regulatory filings.
  • Monitoring grid connection reforms and changes to grid connection process and policy as well as communicating these to the wider development team.
  • Develop grid connection strategies to support long-term business goals.
  • Analyze grid capacity and constraints in early project development stages.
  • Advise on site selection based on grid availability and cost.
  • Lead and coordinate cross‑functional teams, including engineering, legal, commercial, and construction.
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and risks associated with grid connections.
  • Maintain strong relationships with utilities, consultants, and contractors.
  • Implement new technologies

This position requires a candidate with intricate knowledge of the UK interconnections process as well as economic and policy changes in order to successfully oversee UK interconnections.
