Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join the Leadership Team within the Finance Team at Hull City Council, as a Head of Business Finance. This permanent role is well suited to an individual looking to advance their career in finance and gain hands on experience in a busy public sector environment. Hull has a population of 269,000 and was the UK City of Culture in 2017. The post holder will influence the organisation’s strategic financial direction and outcomes for residents in Hull.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Business Finance function and influence the overall financial strategy for the Council.
  • Manage financial reporting, budget modelling and operational finance activities.
  • Lead teams across Business Finance and Financial Planning, and maintain key relationships across operational services and the organisation.
  • Provide strong leadership and direction to multiple teams, ensuring effective management and development of staff.
  • Communicate clearly and analyse financial information to support decision making; work independently and as part of a wider team.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Qualified accountant with appropriate professional credentials (as applicable to the public sector).
  • Experience in financial planning, reporting and leadership within a complex organisation; public sector experience is desirable.
  • Strong leadership, communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with the capability to lead multiple teams.
