Job summary

Actian in Manchester seeks a highly technical Tech Lead to guide a small feature team of 3–4 engineers. You will write backend code, architect scalable SaaS systems, and lead by example rather than managing tasks.

You'll own the technical execution, leverage a modern stack (Scala, Python, TypeScript), and champion AI coding agents to boost output while maintaining quality. Remote or hybrid work is supported.

Qualifications

• Deep backend engineering experience building and scaling cloud-native SaaS platforms.
• Strong, production-proven experience with Scala; Python or TypeScript a plus.
• Deep experience using AI coding agents to prompt, review, and improve code.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on coding and execution of complex backend tasks.
• Guide the technical direction using Scala and Python, and TypeScript for full-stack delivery.
• Promote AI coding agents to speed up delivery while ensuring quality and security.
• Own the lifecycle of features for multi-tenant cloud SaaS and production readiness.
• Mentor 3–4 engineers through pair programming and code reviews.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to refine features and translate ideas into technical tasks.
• Ensure production health, reliability, and security in the cloud.
