Job summary

A healthcare provider in the UK seeks a part-time Gynae Cancer Support Worker to assist in the coordination of cancer patients' diagnostic pathways. Gynae Cancer Support Worker

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Gynae Cancer Support Worker at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a part time post at 15 hours per week and will be supporting the existing Support Worker in tracking and liaising with suspected gynae cancer patients to ensure that their pathway runs smoothly and in a timely way.

You will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and the Multi‑Disciplinary Teams within the specialties as well as the rest of the Cancer Services Team.

The Cancer Management team is committed to the personal development of team members and there will be opportunities for development within this role.

Enthusiasm, commitment and flexibility are required for this role along with good customer service and excellent organisational and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment with excellent attention to detail is absolutely essential.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist, support and coordinate the diagnostic pathway for patients.
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to patients, families, consultants, cancer nurse specialists and other staff involved in the suspected cancer pathway.
  • Ensure efficient channelling and close co‑ordination of the patient pathway, ensuring robust communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust and close liaison with the community staff and oncology teams.
  • Signpost patients and carers to the relevant sources of support and information appropriate to their needs.
  • Work autonomously, using your own initiative and within a specialised team.
  • Maintain knowledge of the healthcare context and medical terminology, and be educated to a Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification or equivalent experience.

The successful applicant will ensure the efficient channelling and close co‑ordination of the patient pathway ensuring robust communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust and close liaison with the community staff and oncology teams. In addition, the post holder will be able to signpost patients and carers to the relevant sources of support and information appropriate to their needs.

Qualifications
  • 5 GCSEs including Maths and English or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level
Experience
