Overview

Group Environmental Technical Manager – Essex

£-Attractive salary plus bonus, company car and fuel card. WasteRecruit is working with a specialist waste management company who focuses on the safe, sustainable and compliant reuse of construction, demolition and excavation waste.

A vacancy currently exists for a Group Environmental Technical Manager to work alongside the company's energetic team covering the South East. This is a fast-paced business with plenty of opportunities for growth.

You will manage a team and provide leadership across all aspects of environmental compliance. Working closely with senior leaders and duty holders, you will ensure legal standards and obligations are met both now and in the future. You will have a visible presence on site and in the boardroom and, through innovation and inspiration, will be the driving force to zero carbon.

Main responsibilities
  • Be accountable for environmental compliance regimes across the Group including permit management, aggregate testing and soil sampling.
  • Hold and discharge Technical Competent Management (TCM) duties to comply with environmental permitting Regulations such as WAMITAB.
  • Manage a team of specialists, providing advice, support and training where necessary.
  • Manage the Group's Carbon Reduction programme.
  • Be responsible for maintaining and reviewing environmental management systems.
  • Work with and hold external consultants and testing facilities to account on both quality and cost of work.
  • Co-ordinate with external consultants regarding permit applications/variations, monitoring and planning.
  • Carry out inspection as per set monitoring regime.
  • Support Digital Waste Tracking implementation.
  • Carry out site audits internally and externally.
  • Represent the company and act as the point of contact for various regulatory bodies.
  • Represent the Group's interest with external clients.
  • Manage budgets to include maintaining and replacing onsite testing equipment.
  • Keep up to date with all the latest environmental legislation and industry changes.
  • Support the business with future growth opportunities.
  • Take responsibility for compliance with regards HR and Health & Safety legislation, promoting a safe, equitable and legally compliant workplace.
Candidate requirements

Essential

  • Experience of whole lifecycle of environmental permits, aggregates and soil testing.
  • Hold a recognised environmental qualification and associated membership.
  • Experience of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and ISO 14001.
  • Possess a full, clean UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Hold COTC LS4 (Special/Hazardous Waste - Landfill).
  • Hold COTC TMS4 (Special/Hazardous Waste - Treatment).
  • Educated to a minimum HND/Degree level.
