Our Underwriting & Distribution (U&D) division within PIB Group is seeking a Group Chief Underwriting Officer to operate within its MGU space.
The purpose of the job is to own and execute on the Underwriting and Capacity Strategy of U&D to deliver sustainable growth in profits in keeping with the objectives of Underwriting & Distribution and PIB Group, whilst delivering profit targets agreed with insurers.

Technical & portfolio underwriting
Commercial & strategic execution
Capacity network / relations
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong background in portfolio management including pricingin a commercial insurance environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Binder Management: it’s governance, oversight, the maintenance of operational systems and production of periodic MI to enable such oversight
Underwriting Performance Management: manage the Underwriting performance at a portfolio level, using portfolio techniques to protect capacity arrangements and deliver U&D objectives
Capacity Management: Manage insurer relationships from an underwriting perspective; seek out new capacity opportunities; ensure new and existing capacity relations, terms and structures are optimised; develop the capability to manage own capacity arrangements within the MGU
Product oversight and governance: setting up and monitoring schemes with Insurers and compliance with PROD requirements as a Distributor and/or manufacturer and pricing
Team management: Lead and successfully manage the MGU team of Portfolio Underwriters, Pricing and data executives. Deliver employee engagement within the team; build a positive culture in line with PIB Group philosophy, championing collaboration and an open, transparent communication style
Stakeholder management: Collaborate with U&D business units MDs and their front line teams, as well as other departments (Risk & Compliance, Finance, People, Distribution & Operations) to ensure seamless integration of underwriting objectives and processes
Personal responsibilities: Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory policy and guidelines including all PIB Group policies and procedures to maintain the company’s regulatory requirements and business ethics; develop strong relations with key partners and stakeholders and act as the focal point of contact for them; communicate strategic direction, operational decisions and sales perspectives to business teams, internal and external partners; assume CF responsibilities in line with relevant Statement of Responsibilities
Continuous relevance: Maintain knowledge of the insurance markets and industry; monitor the marketplace to identify, assess and make recommendations about business opportunities and/or threats presented by new and/or emerging risks or competitors
Person specification
Essential:
ACII – Chartered Insurance Broker and/or Business Administration / Management qualification
Desirable:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
Experience
15+ years experience in underwriting & commercial insurance
5+ years experience in a similar role
Proven record in developing profitable strategies and growth
Knowledge
Strong understanding of general insurance products, regulatory framework
Strong understanding of performance management principles
Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, HR, Finance etc
In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices
In depth knowledge of the UK insurance industry
