Ground Investigation Engineer

ATG is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Ground Investigation Engineer to join an expanding geotechnical team in Belfast. You will play a key role in the planning, execution, and reporting of ground investigations across sectors including infrastructure, construction, utilities, and environmental projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Plan, supervise, and execute site investigations including drilling, trial pitting, sampling, and in-situ testing.
  2. Produce accurate site investigation logs, reports, and technical documentation.
  3. Liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities to meet project objectives.
  4. Oversee health, safety, and environmental aspects of ground investigation works in accordance with CDM Regulations.
  5. Assist in preparing factual and interpretative geotechnical reports.
  6. Coordinate laboratory testing and interpret test results.
  7. Support junior engineers and technicians on-site and in office-based tasks.
  8. Ensure compliance with industry standards (BS5930, Eurocode 7) and company procedures.
Requirements:
  1. Degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. 1–3 years of experience in ground investigation or geotechnical site work.
  3. Good understanding of soil and rock logging to BS5930.
  4. Valid CSCS card (or equivalent).
  5. Full UK driving license.
  6. Membership or working toward chartership with a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, GeolSoc).
  7. First Aid and SMSTS/SSSTS certification.
  8. Experience with geotechnical software (e.g., HoleBASE, gINT, GeoStudio).
