Job summary

Guardian Jobs in Birmingham is seeking a Graduate Science Teaching Assistant to support the Science department across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping raise attainment and build student confidence in Science.

You will work alongside experienced staff delivering biology, chemistry and physics support, run 1:1 and small-group sessions, assist with lesson prep, and help foster a welcoming, inclusive classroom that encourages participation on the path to teacher training.

Qualifications

• 2:1 or higher degree in a Science-related subject from a leading university.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, patient, and adaptable approach.
• Experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.
• Genuine interest in education and a desire to pursue a career in the sector.
• Ability to work effectively alongside teachers and other school staff.

Responsibilities

• Support teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics lessons.
• Deliver 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who would benefit from additional intervention.
• Assist teachers with lesson preparation, resources, and classroom activities.
• Help students develop their confidence, independence, and engagement with Science.
• Encourage positive behaviour and participation within the classroom.
• Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
