This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to develop a strong technical foundation in electrical design and gain exposure to cutting‑edge energy projects.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • HV Cable System Design : Support the design and development of high‑voltage cable systems for transmission and distribution networks including route selection, cable sizing, thermal rating and installation methodologies.
  • Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) Quality Checks : Support site‑based quality assurance activities by reviewing and assisting in carrying out ITP checks for HV cable installation, jointing, termination and testing to ensure all works meet project standards and specifications.
  • Design Software & Tools : Use industry‑standard tools such as AutoCAD, CYMCAP, ELEK or similar cable rating and modelling software to assist in creating and modifying cable layouts, schematics and system models.
  • Project Support : Work closely with senior design engineers to support the preparation of design documentation, specifications and reports for electrical systems.
  • Collaboration : Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers, project managers and clients to ensure seamless integration of electrical designs into overall project plans.
  • Compliance & Standards : Ensure all HV cable designs follow relevant industry standards and regulations (IEC, CIGRE, BS ENA, National Grid standards etc.) and contribute to maintaining quality and compliance across all deliverables.
  • Testing & Validation : Assist in the testing, validation and commissioning processes to ensure that electrical systems meet performance criteria and quality standards.
  • Problem‑Solving & Innovation : Identify areas for improvement within designs, propose engineering solutions and work with the team to implement them efficiently.
  • Health & Safety : Ensure that all designs comply with health and safety regulations and contribute to the promotion of safe working practices within the team.
  • Professional Development : Participate in training and development programmes to enhance your knowledge of electrical design principles, renewable energy systems and engineering tools.
Educational Qualifications
  • A degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Renewable Energy or a related discipline.
  • A strong interest in electrical system design and renewable energy technologies.
Skills and Experience
  • A basic understanding of electrical engineering principles particularly related to HV transmission and distribution systems.
  • Experience using CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit) or electrical design tools is desirable but not essential.
  • Awareness of industry standards (IEC, CIGRE, BS7671, IEEE, ENA etc.).
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal to interact with colleagues and clients.
  • A proactive approach to learning and self‑development.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable but not essential
