Job summary

GE Vernova's Grid Automation Graduate Engineering Programme offers hands-on experience in protection & control for substation projects, rotating across teams to build a strong technical base in SCADA, IEC 61850, and cybersecurity. Mentorship from experienced engineers drives your development.

You will design, configure, and test protection and control solutions for different voltage substations, supported by cross-functional teams, with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or related field.
• Basic understanding of protection schemes, relay logic, and control system principles.
• Familiarity with power system fundamentals, substations, or single line diagrams.
• Knowledge of or interest in SCADA/DCS, industrial communications, or cybersecurity in energy systems.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or AutoCAD is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and configuration of protection and control systems for electrical substations.
• Support testing activities, including factory acceptance tests.
• Gain exposure to SCADA, RTU, HMI systems, and protection relays.
• Learn and apply IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus and other communication protocols.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product engineering, applications, and field services.
• Support documentation development, including system specifications, test procedures, and technical reports.
• Engage in continuous learning, attend training sessions, and contribute to technical innovation.
• Work closely with project and delivery teams to ensure high-quality solutions aligned with customer needs.
