Job summary

GE Vernova – Grid Automation is offering a graduate role for electrical engineering graduates who want to build a career in substation protection and control. You will rotate through teams to gain hands-on experience in designing, configuring and testing protection and control solutions for various substations, while learning about SCADA, IEC 61850, cybersecurity, and protection relays.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems or related field.
• Basic understanding of protection schemes, relay logic and control system principles.
• Familiarity with power system fundamentals, substation layouts or single line diagrams.
• Knowledge of SCADA/DCS, industrial communications, or cybersecurity in energy systems is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB or AutoCAD is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication and teamwork skills.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and configuration of protection and control systems for electrical substations.
• Support testing activities, including factory acceptance tests.
• Gain exposure to SCADA, RTU, HMI systems, and protection relays.
• Learn and apply IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus and other communication protocols.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product engineering, applications, and field services.
• Support documentation development, including system specifications, test procedures, and technical reports.
• Engage in continuous learning, attend training sessions, and contribute to technical innovation.
• Work closely with project and delivery teams to ensure high-quality solutions aligned with customer needs.
