Job summary

A well-established medical organization in Pelsall is seeking enthusiastic front desk staff to provide reception and administrative support in a busy practice. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside previous experience dealing with the public. Responsibilities include answering phones, assisting patients, processing prescriptions, and clerical duties. Successful candidates must have a GCSE in English and the ability to work effectively in a team and independently. Flexible working hours may apply.

This busy, varied role includes answering phones, assisting & directing patients, manning front desk, scanning documents, processing prescriptions & any other admin tasks as & when required.

We are looking for the right candidate/s to work up to 40 hours a week. Our surgeries are open Monday to Friday, between 7:15am - 6:30pm & employees are required to work a combination of early starts & late finishes to meet business needs.

Although you would be based mainly at Hatherton Medical Centre, you may be asked to cover at any of our Umbrella Practices for training & development or to cover in times of sickness or annual leave.

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience of working in general practice or the NHS, & experience of dealing with the public both face-to-face & on the telephone, though anyone with strong customer service skills gained in any environment may be considered.

Main duties of the job

To provide an efficient reception and administration service to patients as well as support for clinicians, to enable the effective day to day running of the practice. To undertake clerical duties as necessary and to enter relevant data onto the computer system, working both on your own initiative and as part of a team.

The successful candidate will also have:

  • Empathy
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently, and be able to use their own initiative
  • Ability to diffuse sensitive situations with members of the public who are distressed whilst also remaining calm
  • Good IT skills (EMISweb experience an advantage)

Umbrella Medical provide primary care services across 4 sites in Walsall:

  • Hatherton St Medical Centre (formerly Lichfield St Surgery, Sycamore House Medical Centre and Limes Medical Centre)
  • Holland Park Surgery
  • Mossley Fields Surgery
  • Broadway Medical Centre

We are a growing partnership with a very strong emphasis on providing high quality accessible care. We are currently CQC OUTSTANDING (2 practices) and continue to build on that foundation. We recognise that General Practice is changing and in order to continue to provide excellent care we are offering this position.

Our newest surgery Hatherton Medical Centre is based within a large, new, purpose built health centre in the heart of Walsall.
