Job description

Wehave an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse to join our current nursingteam. We are looking to recruit anenthusiastic part time Practice Nurse to work across both our main site onDorchester Road and our branch site based within Ashby Clinic to complement ourexisting clinical team. We have a registered patient list size of approximately 8000 patients. The hours are 30 per week (although this may be flexible for the right candidate) and you will be a key part of our multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking a confident and autonomous nurse, preferably with the following experience although training would be available for the successful candidate if needed;

  • Cytology
  • Baby Immunisations
  • Chronic Disease Management (Diabetes, COPD, Asthma)
  • A knowledge of QOF, Enhanced Services, CQC and NICE guidelines
Main duties of the job
  • Carry out baby and childhood immunisations in line with NHS guidance
  • Manage patients with chronic diseases such as Diabetes, COPD and Asthma
  • Carry out long term condition reviews
  • Provide safe evidence based nursing to all patients
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records using our clinical IT system, EMIS
  • Contribute to meeting targets, QOF and Enhanced Services
  • Work together as part of a team to provide patient centred care
About us

West Common Lane Teaching Practice has 2 GP Partners and a list size of approximately 8000 patients. We are a busy teaching practice and have trainees from Medical Students to GP Registrars. Our practice teams include GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and HCAs, together with a highly experienced team of Admin and Reception staff. We are supported by our PCN co workers too.

Job responsibilities

Summary of role

The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of practice.

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
  • Long term condition management
  • Cytology
  • Travel Clinic
  • Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
  • Removal of Sutures
  • ECGs
  • Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
  • Venepuncture
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Interest in Asthma and COPD
  • Interest in Diabetes or Coronary Heart Disease and Contraception
  • Family Planning Clinics including pill checks etc
  • Undertaking audits as and when required including Infection Control
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
  • Other tasks will include;
  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
  • Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels in the absence of a HCA
  • Participation in administrative systems in the practice
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required.
  • On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
