Job description

John Preston & Co, Est 1846, a sixth‑generation Lisburn‑based family business requires a field‑based Cycling Sales Specialist to provide demonstration, assessment, handover and review service for a range of all‑ability cycles and physiotherapy equipment. You will work directly with disabled customers and in joint visits alongside healthcare professionals including occupational therapists and physiotherapists. Our customer base includes the NHS, Health Service Executive, charities, education sector, Access to Work scheme, Motability Scheme and the disabled community throughout the island of Ireland.

This is a highly technical sales role which requires competency with a range of specialist cycling tools. Previous experience working with bicycles—either as a cycle enthusiast or in the industry—is essential. Because some of the range is manufactured to order to suit the user’s needs, attention to detail and accurate note‑taking are also essential attributes. You will treat all customers with patience, respect and clear communication, aware that many of our customers are disabled or have learning difficulties.

The ideal candidate will live in Northern Ireland and be based out of our head office in Lisburn, where you will have access to our comprehensive stock of demonstration equipment. Overnight travel will be required and may increase as you grow your portfolio.

Your portfolio will initially include our all‑ability cycling range, which includes market‑leading brands Tomcat, Van Raam, Ice Trikes & Topend. Our physiotherapy equipment range includes a selection of standers, specialist walkers, gym rehab equipment and sleep systems. Our mobility range includes manual and electric wheelchairs, wheelchair power add‑ons & special‑needs buggies. Key B2B accounts with the public sector and local charities are already established, and there is scope to expand our market share in B2B sales, particularly for special‑needs buggies.

Responsibilities
  • Field‑based sales for a diverse range of special‑needs trikes and bikes, including side‑by‑side tandems, wheelchair rickshaws, physiotherapy and rehab equipment, and other high‑value mobility equipment.
  • Demonstrating, advising, and educating customers throughout Ireland on a comprehensive range of products, and providing assistance in product assessments, set‑up and reviews.
  • Conducting fault‑finding diagnosis and subsequent repairs on your portfolio of products.
  • Deliveries, collections and handovers of the portfolio.
  • Bringing equipment to the customer for demonstration. A company commercial vehicle will be provided.
  • Provision of the highest standards of service to build and maintain excellent customer relationships.
  • Planning and monitoring sales activities to achieve overall sales and individual product targets for the territory.
  • Maintaining a high level of customer contact and communication, and proactively identifying opportunities for business development.
  • Managing your diary effectively to maximise the time spent with customers and ensuring your availability for appointments when requested.
  • Overnight travel will be a requirement as you grow your customer base in Ireland.
  • Arranging and carrying out Lunch and Learn product awareness training.
  • Creating new customers through planned sales visits.
  • Following up on sales visits and maintaining good customer contact.
  • Developing and maintaining an accurate sales contact database.
  • Ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed completely and accurately.
  • Ensuring all equipment is labelled clearly at all times.
  • Reporting all issues, adverse situations and product feedback to your line manager.
  • Treating all customers with patience and respect, while being aware that many customers may have learning difficulties and require clear communication.
  • Developing good working relationships with other staff.
