Job description
Overview

The role is to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document and the Teachers’ Standards. The post holder will take specific responsibility for the day-to-day management and organisation of Foundation Stage 2 (FS2) and have an impact on educational progress beyond their assigned pupils. They will assist in the smooth running of the school and share responsibility with other TLR holders for the school in the absence of the head teacher, deputy head teacher and assistant head teachers.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching: Plan and teach well-structured lessons, following the school’s plans, curriculum and schemes of work; ensure a high-quality indoor and outdoor continuous provision; assess, monitor, record and report on learning needs, progress and achievements; adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils; set high expectations; promote good progress and outcomes; demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge.
  • Teaching and learning responsibility: Use professional skills and judgements to provide strategic and practical leadership in FS2; lead, manage and develop FS2, and provide guidance for other teachers, including training, support and advice to improve school practices; provide strategic subject leadership with up-to-date knowledge of sector trends; oversee curriculum planning to be diverse, inclusive, meet EYFS requirements, be well sequenced for progress towards ELGs, and be consistently implemented across the EYFS; have overall responsibility for your TLR area ensuring curriculum continuity and progression; lead regular meetings related to your TLR area; develop and promote teaching and learning activities for full age and ability range.
  • Strategic direction: Develop and implement EYFS policies aligned with the school’s commitment to high-quality teaching and learning; understand EYFS delivery and its impact on pupil achievement; contribute to the school development plan for EYFS; work with subject leaders to develop their subjects within EYFS; contribute to policy development and the school’s values and vision; participate in curriculum and pupil development to secure coordinated outcomes; be an active middle leader; lead by example with high professional and personal standards and classroom management.
  • Health, safety and discipline: Promote pupil safety and wellbeing; maintain good order and discipline to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Professional development: Participate in the school’s appraisal procedures; engage in training to improve teaching; stay up to date with developments in the TLR area and share information as appropriate; identify training needs and support colleagues within your area; act as a role model and encourage collaboration and teamwork.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and carers.
  • Working with colleagues and other professionals: Hold regular EYFS team meetings; provide support regarding teaching, resources and planning; monitor EYFS implementation across the school; induct new EYFS staff; support moderation processes; collaborate with colleagues across the school and beyond; develop professional relationships.
  • Personal and professional conduct: Uphold public trust and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour; adhere to school ethos, policies and practices; maintain attendance and punctuality; understand and act within statutory professional duties.
  • Monitoring and assessment: Contribute to monitoring and reviewing the impact of teaching and pupil progress as part of the SLT; analyse data for planning and target setting across the TLR area; monitor standards including long and medium-term planning.
  • Manage resources: Create a safe, welcoming environment; audit indoor and outdoor EYFS environments; support continuous provision for independent play and ownership; audit and manage resources to meet pupil and curriculum needs; organise and evaluate school programmes relevant to the TLR area; manage and account for budget; monitor resource use.
  • Other: Assist in the smooth running of the school, including sharing responsibility with other TLR holders for the school in the absence of senior leaders.
