A progressive digital agency in the UK is looking for a Freelance User Researcher to deliver impactful research for B2B websites and digital experiences. The role involves conducting user interviews, usability testing, and synthesizing insights to support UX strategy. Ideal candidates will have a strong track record of insight-led research and experience in CRO. You'll join a talented team committed to innovation and delivering high-quality work. Applicants from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.
We are looking for an experienced Freelance User Researcher to support our Experience Department on upcoming B2B website and digital experience projects.
This role is about delivering research that genuinely shapes decisions. You’ll help teams and clients understand users, reduce risk, and make confident experience choices, focusing on insight that directly informs UX, content, conversion, and experience strategy.
You’ll work at pace, stay pragmatic, and tailor your approach to each project, always keeping delivery, impact, and real-world constraints in mind.
You’ll support research across a mix of B2B projects, including:
You’re an experienced user researcher with a strong track record delivering practical, insight-led research for B2B websites and digital experiences. You focus on research that informs decisions, shapes UX and content, and supports conversion and experience strategy.
You’re confident planning and running B2B user interviews with buyers, decision-makers, and end users, including working with small or hard-to-reach samples.
You’re able to identify meaningful patterns around motivations, barriers, language, and trust, and translate these into clear, actionable insight.
You’re comfortable running website user testing across live sites, prototypes, and wireframes, identifying usability issues and friction across key journeys.
Your findings are prioritised, practical, and focused on improvement.
You have experience conducting competitor analysis and UX heuristic reviews, using them to add market context, surface opportunities, and guide experience decisions.
You understand CRO and optimisation in B2B contexts, with experience framing insight around hypotheses and opportunities for improvement.
You’re comfortable using analytics to guide research focus, pairing data with qualitative insight.
You’re highly skilled at synthesising research into clear outputs that designers, strategists, and clients can act on immediately. You communicate confidently, work well with UX, UI, and strategy teams, and are comfortable working directly with clients.
You have experience working in agency environments and understand the realities of time, budget, and delivery. You adapt your approach to fit constraints while keeping insight quality high and projects moving forward.
You’ll work with Hallam's Experience team, a tight-knit group across UX, UI, and development with big ambitions and high standards. We’re always innovating, pushing boundaries, and working closely together to make work that’s thoughtful, scalable, and well‑crafted. We take the work seriously, not ourselves, and we care deeply about strong design systems, smooth delivery, and doing great work for our clients.
We’re not just some self‑obsessed agency promising table tennis and unlimited snacks in exchange for your soul. And that’s why we’ll always show up with something to say, not just something to sell.
We share a mission to deliver outstanding work with purpose. We’re here to do business in a better way: to work hard to do the right things, not only for our clients but our people and the world around us.
Work should exist to make life better and we are a great place to work. Hallam has been chosen by its employees as one of the best places to work, and in the top 40 marketing employers in the UK.
You’ll join a team of more than 60 talented digital geeks who love everything from board game nights to agency trips out to a post‑work tipple(s).
You’ll get to work for a progressive agency that is driven by its people and values, not just profit. We’ll set you off on your personalised freelance onboarding program where you’ll get to know us; your point of contact and the experience team as well as how we do things around here through our proven design operations and processes.
We highly encourage applicants from under‑represented ethnic groups and LGBTQ communities. Throughout the recruitment process, we will strive to make interviews as diverse and gender‑balanced as possible for impartiality. As long as you’re qualified, you’ll receive equal consideration for employment regardless of race, religion, colour, gender or disability.
