Job description
User Researchers

We are looking for an experienced Freelance User Researcher to support our Experience Department on upcoming B2B website and digital experience projects.

About the Role

This role is about delivering research that genuinely shapes decisions. You’ll help teams and clients understand users, reduce risk, and make confident experience choices, focusing on insight that directly informs UX, content, conversion, and experience strategy.

You’ll work at pace, stay pragmatic, and tailor your approach to each project, always keeping delivery, impact, and real-world constraints in mind.

The work

You’ll support research across a mix of B2B projects, including:

  • Full website rebuilds and redesigns
  • UX audits and expert reviews
  • User testing of live sites, prototypes, and wireframes
  • Discovery and insight phases to inform UX, UI and content strategy
  • CRO and optimisation-focused research
  • Retainer-based research support and mini audits
  • Research to support intelligent experience strategy and design
What you’ll bring to the role

You’re an experienced user researcher with a strong track record delivering practical, insight-led research for B2B websites and digital experiences. You focus on research that informs decisions, shapes UX and content, and supports conversion and experience strategy.

You’re confident planning and running B2B user interviews with buyers, decision-makers, and end users, including working with small or hard-to-reach samples.

You’re able to identify meaningful patterns around motivations, barriers, language, and trust, and translate these into clear, actionable insight.

You’re comfortable running website user testing across live sites, prototypes, and wireframes, identifying usability issues and friction across key journeys.

Your findings are prioritised, practical, and focused on improvement.

You have experience conducting competitor analysis and UX heuristic reviews, using them to add market context, surface opportunities, and guide experience decisions.

You understand CRO and optimisation in B2B contexts, with experience framing insight around hypotheses and opportunities for improvement.

You’re comfortable using analytics to guide research focus, pairing data with qualitative insight.

You’re highly skilled at synthesising research into clear outputs that designers, strategists, and clients can act on immediately. You communicate confidently, work well with UX, UI, and strategy teams, and are comfortable working directly with clients.

You have experience working in agency environments and understand the realities of time, budget, and delivery. You adapt your approach to fit constraints while keeping insight quality high and projects moving forward.

Experience were excited about
  • Experience using AI to support and streamline research workflows.
  • Experience testing, evaluating, or contributing to AI-powered systems or features.
  • Experience contributing to UX, CRO, or experience strategy decisions
Who you'll work with

You’ll work with Hallam's Experience team, a tight-knit group across UX, UI, and development with big ambitions and high standards. We’re always innovating, pushing boundaries, and working closely together to make work that’s thoughtful, scalable, and well‑crafted. We take the work seriously, not ourselves, and we care deeply about strong design systems, smooth delivery, and doing great work for our clients.

About Hallam

What’s it like working with Hallam?
