Financial Controller

Milton Keynes - Hybrid (3 days on site)

£70k + benefits

We Do Group is supporting a rapidly scaling hi tech engineering/manufacturing business with the hire of a newly created Financial Controller role to support the FD and wider business through their next phase of growth.

This broad role offers the opportunity to establish and build a best in class finance function from the ground up. You'll be integral in establishing the building blocks within finance that will support the next phase of growth and expansion for the business. You'll initially be working directly with the FD across month end, year end, finance operations and commercial finance before building out a small team in line with the businesses growth.

We are looking for a fully qualified finance professional who is looking to take that next step upwards into a true no.2 role and build towards a Head of Finance or FD role in the future.

This position works closely with a highly commercial FD who truly believes in empowering their direct reports to lead and develop their careers - if you're looking to learn and grow on your own career pathway to a FD or CFO role in the future this opportunity would definitely be a great move.

Wish List
  • Formally qualified accountant (2+ years PQE) - ACA/ACCA/CIMA
  • Prior experience implementing processes, procedures or systems in a finance function
  • Ideally exposure to manufacturing, engineering, construction or sectors subject to WIP accounting.
  • A drive to build a finance function and excited to be part of scaling
  • Agile and adaptable with experience in fast changing businesses.
  • Systems savvy and strong Excel skills
The Role

The successful Financial Controller will lead the following:

  • Design, develop and implement processes across finance, including but not limited to; P2P, O2C, GL, month end and year end, budgeting and forecasting
  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, balance sheet and P&L reconciliations
  • Lead the annual statutory audit, including statutory accounts and tax preparation (in collaboration with external accountants) as well as overseeing VAT compliance/reporting
  • Produce weekly sales and revenue reporting with clear insight and commentary
  • Produce and maintain a rolling cashflow forecast
  • In collaboration with the FD, produce monthly variance analysis across all commercial metrics
  • Provide input into a new budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Maintain purchase ledger and account receivable
  • Take a key leadership role in future budget production and support the preparation of longer-term planning
  • Review available data and KPI outputs with operational teams and leadership, discuss usefulness, and gather feedback to improve insights
  • Deliver financial and operational analysis that supports decision-making and contributes to the goals of the Strategic Growth Plan
  • Support the preparation of monthly Board reporting
  • Ensure system adoption across the business including running training sessions if/when appropriate
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance systems, processes, and reporting
Your Profile

We are looking for an energetic, fully qualified, finance professional who has a technically sound accounting, reporting and compliance background but who aspires to grow and deliver more value add across commercial analysis, FP&A, insights and strategy.

We need someone who enjoys being hands on and thrives when operating in a broad role with exposure to a varied stakeholder base.

The business culture is agile, collaborative and supportive - you'll need to have the ability to challenge internal and stakeholders when appropriate while pro-actively seeking to make improvements wherever possible.

This could be an excellent step for someone operating as a Financial Accountant, Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Financial Reporting Manager (or similar) but equally would be an interesting step for someone already in a Financial Controller type role who is looking for greater breadth or just the ability to really make an impact in an organisation.
