Job description

Rutherford Briant are recruiting for a newly created Financial Controller based in Bury St Edmunds offering hybrid working. As the Financial Controller you will be supporting the Head of Finance with all statutory accounting, audit, controls and overseeing the Finance Team.

Typical duties;

  • Lead core accounting processes across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring full compliance with EU GAAP and IFRS.
  • Own preparation and review of consolidated financial statements across the Group portfolio.
  • Lead a team of 4 providing direction, support, and development.
  • Automate and optimize workflows, identifying and removing manual processes to improve accuracy, speed, and scalability.
  • Implement and manage financial systems and tools to support a modern finance operation.
  • Collaborate with global teams to align on financial data, forecasting, and planning.
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax returns, VAT filings, payroll, and other statutory requirements.
  • Lead financial audits, acting as the key point of contact for auditors and internal stakeholders.
  • Deliver investor-ready financial reports and dashboards, combining strong storytelling with data insights.
  • Drive continuous improvement of accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting standards.

You will be

  • Fully qualified with proven post qualification experience
  • AdvancedExcel and data analysiscapabilities
  • Experience withconsolidated financial statements, audits, and system-led financial management.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present financial insights clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Leadership experience — either formally managing people or leading cross-functional finance initiatives.
