Job Introduction

Finance Team Leader – Accounts Payable

What you'll do

As the Finance Team Leader for Accounts Payable, you will provide leadership, direction and day‑to‑day oversight of our Accounts Payable function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments. You will act as the key escalation point for the Accounts Payable Officers, supporting the delivery of a seamless, customer‑focused service across the organisation.

You will maintain strong internal controls, uphold compliance, and support continuous improvement within the team – contributing to an efficient and dependable Financial Operations Hub.

How you’ll do it
  • Lead, support and motivate the Accounts Payable team, providing training, allocating workload and monitoring performance to create a collaborative and positive working environment.
  • Oversee timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal procedures.
  • Handle complex queries from internal and external stakeholders, resolving disputes and escalating where required.
  • Champion a culture of service improvement, ensuring the team meets strict deadlines and evolving operational needs.
  • Provide senior‑level advice and guidance on Accounts Payable processes and controls.
  • Analyse financial data to produce insights and recommendations for management.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, supporting audits and providing necessary documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant NHG policies and procedures, including health and safety and financial regulations.
  • Work in hybrid arrangements – typically three days a week in an office, with home working possible depending on business requirements.

Essential
  • Proven experience in an Accounts Payable role, including supervisory or team‑lead responsibilities.
  • Part‑ or fully‑qualified CCAB (desirable) or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse complex data for senior audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and lead a high‑performing team.
