The Role

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Finance Manager to take responsibility for the financial management of Chambers. This is a key role, supporting the efficient running of Chambers' operations and contributing to strategic planning and decision-making. The Finance Manager will work closely with the Senior Clerk, Finance Assistant, Clerking Team, Barristers and external suppliers to make sure the financial reporting is completed accurately and efficiently. The Finance Manager will oversee all aspects of Chambers' financial administration and will also provide support with HR and general administrative functions. They will develop the administrative processes and procedures that are necessary to deliver a professional support service to Chambers.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Manage budgeting and financial planning processes.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and annual financial statements.
  • Monitor cash flow, income, and expenditure to ensure financial stability.
  • Liaise with external accountants in preparing of year end accounts and VAT returns.
  • Manage bank accounts, payments, and reconciliations.
  • Work with the Finance Assistant with all aspects of purchase ledger.
  • Assist in chasing aged debt.
  • Provide financial analysis and reports for the Head of Chambers and Management Board.

HR & Administration:

  • General office / facilities management.
  • Assist with HR processes including payroll, pensions, recruitment administration, and maintaining staff records.
  • Annual renewal of insurances, memberships etc and contract renewals.
  • Organisation of staff training and health and safety in Chambers.
  • Liaising with pension provider re benefits in kind and pension requirements.
  • Ensure Chambers is GDPR compliant.
Person Specification

Essential:

  • Strong experience in financial management or accounting, ideally within a professional services or legal environment.
  • Experience using Sage accounting software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Desirable:

  • A recognised accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of the structure and operation of barristers' chambers.
