Qualifications

  • Some exposure to financial reporting and monthly close processes.
  • Previous experience in finance or administrative roles supporting financial processes is advantageous.

Job description

Equans is looking for a Finance Analyst to join our team based at the Manchester Joint Hospital, M13 on a permanent basis. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary banding of £28,000 - £35,000, dependant upon skills and experience as well as benefits package.

Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, you will provide essential financial support to the Private North Contracts team by assisting in the preparation of monthly management accounts and embedding yourself as the local finance contact at Manchester Joint Hospital (MJH). This role is ideal for early-career finance professionals eager to develop practical skills and build strong collaborative relationships.

You will be based at Manchester Joint Hospital with travel to other regional sites a requirement.

What will you deliver?
  • Act as the finance representative at MJH, building trust and strong relationships with operations and management teams while supporting the wider cluster of contracts and providing clear interpretation of financial data.
  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts including accruals, prepayments, variance analysis and journal postings.
  • Assist in monitoring arrears, management of Work In Progress (WIP), and tracking of contract spend to improve cash flow and financial performance.
  • Assist with regular balance sheet reviews, ensuring accuracy and timely reconciliation.
  • Contribute to cashflow forecasting activities.
  • Support the Finance Business Partner with budgeting and periodic forecasting.
  • Monitor, track, and report on expenditure and financial results for Private North contracts.
  • Assist and respond to ad hoc financial requests as needed.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with operational teams, credit control, finance, and other stakeholders to collect relevant financial information and resolve queries.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for financial process improvements by demonstrating curiosity, asking questions, and committing to continuous learning.

Who are you?
  • Experienced with MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • SAP/ERP systems - desirable but not essential.
  • Understanding of management accounting principles including accruals, prepayments, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Some exposure to financial reporting and monthly close processes, with a willingness to learn and develop further.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and receivables processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable learning new finance systems and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively across teams and hierarchy levels.
  • Proactive, curious, and eager to learn - comfortable asking questions and seeking clarity to improve understanding.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines reliably.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective relationship-building and being a trusted finance contact for operational teams.
  • Progressing towards a recognised finance or accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, CIMA, ACCA) with practical experience in finance/accounts and management accounts, or a relevant degree.
  • Previous experience in finance or administrative roles supporting financial processes is advantageous.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines.

This role includes a Basic DBS check therefore ability to pass is essential.
