Job summary

Scottish Water in Orkney is seeking a Field Response Network Service Operative. You’ll respond to customer enquiries, make quick decisions to resolve faults, and help protect water networks using modern leak detection equipment.

You’ll work safely, follow DOMS and hygiene codes, and communicate clearly with customers and internal teams. A standby rota is required; the role offers a generous annual leave package and benefits including pension and life assurance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of HAUC specifications for reinstatement works and relevant Health and Safety requirements.
• Understanding and applying water and sewer hygiene codes of practice, including DOMS.
• Customer-focused with strong communication, reporting and follow-up skills.
• Confident problem solver who can manage queries and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Flexible and willing to take part in a standby rota, supporting service coverage 365 days a year.

Responsibilities

• Respond to customer enquiries as part of the Field Response team to resolve issues efficiently.
• Make quick, well‑judged decisions to minimise disruption.
• Support fault finding and ensure repairs are completed efficiently using leak detection equipment.
• Work safely and follow DOMS policies and hygiene code of practice.
• Communicate clearly with customers and colleagues, and manage workload to meet deadlines.
• Use IT systems confidently while staying organised in a fast-paced environment.
