Job summary

Interaction Technical, in partnership with a leading commercial vehicle maintenance provider, is recruiting an experienced HGV Technician to join their Birmingham workshop. You will maintain and repair a predominantly Scania fleet, conduct servicing and diagnostics, and ensure safety and compliance, with a salary of £42,000–£50,000, overtime, a company van with fuel card and a generous holiday entitlement.

Qualifications

• Experience as an HGV Technician or similar role is essential.
• Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair qualification or equivalent is essential.
• Full UK driving licence is essential.
• Ability to work both independently and in a busy workshop.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and pneumatic faults.
• Complete repairs according to manufacturer standards and safety regulations.
• Strip, inspect and rebuild major components such as engines, gearboxes and braking systems.
• Record maintenance and repairs using workshop management systems.
• Work with others to minimise vehicle downtime and maintain high workmanship standards.

The Role

As an HGV Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a predominantly Scania fleet, ensuring vehicles remain safe, reliable and compliant with all relevant legislation.

Your duties will include:

• Carrying out planned servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical and pneumatic faults
• Completing repairs and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer standards
• Stripping, inspecting and rebuilding major components, including engines, gearboxes, differentials and braking systems
• Carrying out detailed vehicle testing and diagnostic fault-finding
• Completing safety inspections and preparing vehicles for MOT and DVSA requirements
• Accurately recording all maintenance and repair activities using workshop management systems
• Maintaining high standards of workmanship, productivity and efficiency
• Working closely with other technicians and workshop management to minimise vehicle downtime
• Following all company health & safety procedures and best engineering practices

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Previous experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or Commercial Vehicle Technician – essential
• Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair qualification or equivalent – essential
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
• Proven experience servicing, maintaining and repairing heavy commercial vehicles
• Experience stripping, inspecting and rebuilding vehicle components
• Good knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• A full UK driving licence – essential
• A positive attitude and willingness to continue learning and developing
• The ability to work independently as well as effectively within a busy workshop team
