Job summary

Interaction Technical is recruiting an experienced HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic for its workshop in Hatfield, South Yorkshire. The role offers a base salary of around £47,000 with realistic OTE £55,000–£60,000+ and rotating shift patterns.

You will service, repair and maintain a mixed fleet of HGVs, diagnose faults, and attend breakdowns. Regular overtime and ongoing training are provided in a busy, professional workshop.

Qualifications

• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across commercial vehicles.
• Experience servicing, inspecting, maintaining and repairing HGV fleets.
• Ability to strip and rebuild major vehicle components.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on a mixed fleet of HGVs and commercial vehicles.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Attend vehicle breakdowns and provide roadside assistance as part of a rota.
• Complete repairs and maintenance according to manufacturer specifications.

Salary: £47,000 per annum | OTE: £55,000–£60,000+ | Location: Hatfield, South Yorkshire | Hours: Rotating Shift Pattern

• Week 1: Monday to Friday, 6:00am–2:30pm
• Weeks 2 & 3: Monday to Friday, 10:00am–8:00pm
• 1 in 3 Saturdays: 6:00am–2:00pm, paid at 1.5x rate

The Role

As an HGV Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing and repair of a varied commercial vehicle fleet. Your duties will include:

• Carrying out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on a mixed fleet of HGVs and commercial vehicles
• Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults
• Conducting vehicle inspections, defect reporting and preventative maintenance
• Stripping, inspecting and rebuilding major components, including engines, gearboxes, axles, suspension and braking systems
• Carrying out testing and fault-finding to ensure vehicles meet DVSA and company compliance standards
• Completing repairs and maintenance in line with manufacturer specifications
• Attending vehicle breakdowns and providing roadside assistance as part of a rota
• Carrying out mobile maintenance and repairs at customer sites when required
• Accurately completing job cards, service sheets and other maintenance documentation

The Requirements

To be considered for this position, you will need:

• Previous experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or PSV Technician — essential
• Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent — essential
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across commercial vehicles
• Experience carrying out servicing, inspections, maintenance and repairs on HGV fleets
• The ability to strip and rebuild major vehicle components
• Good knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical systems
• A full UK driving licence — essential
• An HGV licence — desirable but not essential
• The ability to work independently and as part of a professional workshop team
• A flexible, proactive approach to breakdowns, call-outs and mobile repair work
