Responsibilities
- Run and install cables across different sites
- Adjust signal levels and connections
- Configure advanced equipment
- Work at heights to install and update equipment on poles
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical, hands‑on work in changing environments
- Use a full driver’s licence to drive company vans to customer sites, delivering a friendly, knowledgeable service
- Encourage customer referrals – earn a £50 bonus for each new customer
- Carry out a risk assessment before starting work activities and follow method statements
- Identify the structure and composition of telecom network cables
- Interpret telecom network plans to identify plant or location
- Work on and in various connection points in the telecoms network
- Work safely and follow correct procedures when entering and working in the telecoms network, both overhead and underground
- Select and use appropriate equipment on a telecom network
- Install and test components of the telecom network
- Fault‑find and problem‑solve on the telecom network
- Maintain safety standards while working toward task objectives
- Use personal protective equipment appropriately
- Use a variety of communication methods to interact with third parties, giving and receiving information accurately and timely
- Identify and take appropriate actions when working around other utilities and services
- Work as an individual or as part of a team to achieve defined goals

Apprenticeship Details
Level 2 Telecoms Field Operative apprenticeship, fully funded by Virgin Media O2. You will spend approximately 20% of your working hours completing learning with a training provider while working on the job. The programme runs 1 year 1 month, with training being the first 37.5 hours per week on a rolling pattern between 8am and 8pm. Upon completion you will move to a 4‑days‑out‑of‑7 working week (38 hours). Start date: 8 April 2026.
Remuneration & Benefits
- Starting salary £26,500 per year, rising to £29,000 upon completion of the apprenticeship
