CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent Full-time

DEPARTMENT: BBC Sport

LOCATION: Media Centre Salford / This role can be based in Salford or the incumbent can work from the Salford office 3 x days a week. The travel would be self funded

Why Join the Team

The Editorial Executive provides editorial creative and compliance support to the Director of BBC Sport. The role will advise on support and co-ordinate BBC Sports output including co-ordination of an extensive range of editorial changes and projects across BBC Sport. This is a brand new role and will have the opporutnity to work closely with colleagues across BBC Content and in other divisions to support BBC Sports editorial strategy.

Your Key Responsibilities and Impact
  • Co-ordinate and drive BBC Sport editorial projects and support ongoing transformation activity alongside PM / Bus Ops team.
  • Work closely and proactively with the senior teams across BBC Sport to deliver the agreed strategic editorial priorities supporting collaboration across and between teams.
  • Stay across all major events planning plus editorial priorities and take a long term planning view to co-ordinate output across BBC Sport.
  • Work collaboratively with key editorial stakeholders to support co-coordination of on-air presenters and individuals across TV and Audio as well as thinking about use of presenters more widely across Content and succession plans.
  • Provide a triaging service for the Director of Sport on reactive editorial issues using editorial judgement to ensure he / she is briefed on key issues and minimising escalations.
  • Deputise for Director of Sport where needed (as with other direct reports of the Director of Sport) be the delegated authority to lead on key actions or projects.
  • Work closely with the Press and External communications teams to support the outward facing strategy for BBC Sport.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to support campaigns.
  • Support the Director of Sport as required in matters of editorial sign-off compliance and curation decisions.
  • Provide a pan-Sport point of contact and liaison for internal partners including wider Content stakeholders News and Nations particularly Sport output Radio & Music particularly 5Live Diversity and Inclusion including Creative Diversity leads Partnerships Sustainability Marketing and Audience etc to coordinate and maximise opportunities for innovative collaboration that leads to editorial impact such as Womens Summer of Sport or World Cup 2026.
  • Support Director of Sport in managing liaising and updating senior stakeholders on key matters including editorial decisions prominent / impactful / high risk content and decisions for on-air presenters.
Your Skills and Experience
  • Experience of creating and launching new editorial products.
  • Experience operating at a senior level. A convincing and persuasive communicator able to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Able to establish effective and collaborative relations across BBC internal departments and external agencies / stakeholders where required.
  • Uses data to support decision making as well as influencing strategy and editorial direction.
  • Passionate about Sport with the ability to tie this passion to deliver new audiences.
