Overview
Estates Supervisor leads a multidisciplinary team providing a comprehensive Healthcare engineering maintenance service to all wards and departments within the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The role reports to the Deputy Estates Manager and supports Estates Operational Maintenance, Additional Works, Capital Backlog and Maintenance Services through performance management arrangements.
Responsibilities
- Supervise team members and contractors, provide practical instruction and mentor apprentices to support their development.
- Plan, prioritise and monitor planned maintenance activities, using CAFM systems and BMS management software.
- Act as authorised person/responsible officer for Medical Gases, HV/LV electrical, and Lifts.
- Maintain, operate and review the pre‑planned maintenance programme, revising procedures and working practices as required.
- Participate in the Estates on‑call rota and undertake out‑of‑hours service.
- Contribute to management of pay and non‑pay budgets for the Estates team and support the delivery of CIP plans in line with corporate targets.

- Carry out work in accordance with legislation, policies and best practice guidance.

- Maintain accurate CAFM records and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Manage financial aspects of estates revenue and capital budgets.

- Research best practice with other NHS organisations.
- Develop and implement benefit realisation plans from revenue and capital investment.
- Review performance against KPIs and address areas of concern proactively.
- Complete all required paperwork, job dockets and timesheets.
- Participate in regular team briefings and personal development planning.
Governance
- Ensure high standards of customer service by monitoring internal and external service lines.
- Conduct regular contact with nursing staff at ward level.
Patient / Customer Service
- Deliver consistently high standards of customer service by monitoring service lines.
- Maintain regular contact with nursing staff at ward level.
Safeguarding
- Actively support safeguarding policy, reporting any cases of suspicion of abuse or neglect.
- Complete safeguarding training annually.
General
- Participate in the on‑call rota and attend sites during evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required.
- Work in hazardous areas with all safety measures to prevent injury and damage to equipment.
- Plan and prioritise maintenance activities, liaising with end users, contractors and specialist agencies.
- Undertake surveys, audits and estate condition surveys as required.
Person Specification
- Commitment to Trust Values and Behaviours – demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust’s values.
- Training & Qualifications – recognised trade apprenticeship in electrical/mechanical or construction discipline; Engineering/Building degree or HNC/HND; authorised person for Healthcare technical engineering systems.
- Experience – extensive experience in building engineering services within an acute hospital; supervision of staff/sub‑contractors; knowledge of special services (HV & LV electrical, pressure systems, medical gases, ventilation, fire alarms, legionella).
- Knowledge & Skills – statutory mandatory guidance; health and safety legislation; risk assessment and audit skills; communication and relationship skills; organisational and written communication skills; IT/PC skills for planned maintenance software.
- Leadership – ability to work on own initiative as part of a team, flexible to learning new skills.
Salary and Benefits
- Band 6 – NHS AfC band 6 base salary with NHS pay bands.
- Flexible working – may work at other designated sites (Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital).
