Job Description

A leading City law firm is seeking an experienced trust and estate administrator to assist the private client team. The role involves working alongside trust and estate planners, primarily assisting with administering estates.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing IHT returns (e.g., IHT 400) with a good understanding of IHT allowances, including the nil rate band and the transferable nil rate band.
  • General estate administration, communicating with financial institutions and relevant parties to gather information and value date of death assets and liabilities.
  • Settling income tax liabilities.
  • Maintenance and preparation of estate accounts.
  • Liaising with HMRC and HMCTS.
  • Preparing Statements of Truth and dealing with the application to obtain a grant of probate.
  • Regularly updating line manager to keep abreast of progress.
  • Collecting in assets on receipt of the Grant of Probate, including sales of shares, properties, and other assets.

The ideal candidate will have experience in private banking, a wealth manager firm, or law firm dealing with private client work, specifically with a clear understanding and application of probate law and administration. Salary is negotiable dependent on experience but in the region of £45 - £50k.
