Environmental Health Officer - Fully Qualified

An opportunity has arisen for forward-thinking Environmental Health Officers to join the Public Protection Service’s Environmental Health (Food / Health & Safety) Team. We are looking to recruit two specialist officers.

For fully qualified EHO's salary is Band 8 £39,862 - £44,075 (For thosestill working towards EHRB registration, salary is Band 7 £35,412 - £39,152,moving up to Band 8 once qualified).

Food Hygiene & Standards Specialist

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver programmed food hygiene & standards inspections
  • Investigate infectious disease cases and outbreaks
  • Respond to complaints, service requests, and enquiries
  • Take appropriate enforcement action to improve standards and protect public health

Health & Safety Specialist

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct risk-based workplace inspections
  • Undertake health and safety enforcement activity, ensuring compliance through advice, formal notices, and (where appropriate) legal action
  • Investigate workplace accidents, complaints, RIDDORs, and public health concerns (including legionella)

For both roles we are looking for

  • Experience across a broad spectrum of environmental health is desirable, including port health.
  • A competent, proactive individual comfortable handling complex casework, both routine and reactive
  • An excellent team player with strong verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and presentation

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

Successful candidates will:

  • Hold a relevant degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Health
  • Have, or be working towards, the EHRB Certificate of Registration (or equivalent)
  • Ideally possess significant post-qualification food safety experience, supported by relevant CPD

Consideration will also be given to qualified applicants currently working in other fields of Environmental Health who are looking to broaden their experience.

The posts are based in Cramlington but will require travel throughout the County. Applicants must therefore be able to meet the transport requirements of the role and as such have a valid UK driving license and the use of a vehicle.
