Overview
The Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) Vice President role for UK/EU is part of Citi’s Global Environmental and Social Risk Management team within Citi’s Sustainability & ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) team. The ESRM team reviews client activities in industries with potential environmental and/or social risks and implements the Citi Environmental and Social Risk Policy Framework.
The Vice President role will be based in Citi London and report to the Global Head of ESRM in Citi headquarters in New York.
Responsibilities
- Review proposed financing transactions in sectors such as metals and mining, oil and gas, forestry, agribusiness, power, etc., for environmental and social risks.
- Advise on Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) policy requirements to align with internal policy and international standards for loan syndication.
- Focus on transactions for European Export Credit Agencies financing projects globally, benchmarking against international environmental and social standards.
- Support the development of ESRM policy-related procedures and guidelines.
- Join client calls and meetings to discuss environmental and social risks and advise on meeting international ESRM standards.
- Provide advice to bankers and help develop governance structures for emerging sustainable finance products.
- Leverage third-party ESG data platforms, conduct corporate-level and portfolio-level reviews of high-risk sectors to identify clients that present elevated environmental, social or reputation risk.
- Support ESRM training of bankers and risk managers.
- Support Citi Europe regulatory implementation efforts on climate/environmental/ESG risk management where ESRM input is required.
- Keep up to date with evolving UK/European ESG-related regulations.
- Maintain flexibility to work across the team according to ESRM priorities but expected to focus approximately 50% on Citi Europe/UK, including Export Finance Agency environmental and social due diligence support, ESG regulatory response and policy deployment needs.
- Work closely with key banking units as well as strategic sustainability partners in the region.
Qualifications/What we’ll need from you
- Relevant experience in the financial sector, industry (such as oil & gas, mining, agribusiness), environmental consultancy or other relevant work experience.
- Knowledgeable about major global environmental and sustainability trends.
- Familiar with international environmental and social finance or industry standards such as the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, ICMA (International Capital Market Association) Green Bond Principles, etc.
- Developed project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with autonomy and self-initiative; strong time management skills and ability to work in a high-performance environment with short deadlines and shifting priorities.
Education
Bachelor's/University degree, Master’s degree preferred, related to sustainability, environmental science, business or finance preferred.
