About the Role
The Senior Engineering Manager – Operations holds primary accountability for providing leadership and management to the operational engineering teams including Shuttle, Specialist Systems, Life Safety & Controls and HVAC. Holds ultimate responsibility for maintaining a safe and stable operation whilst ensuring compliance and regulatory standards are met. Responsible for all contract management and financial decisions related to the engineering operations department.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for the maintenance and reliability of the engineering operations asset base worth circa £350m.
- Direct line management responsibility of 4 reports with a total team of circa 68 FTE.
- Responsible for the Shuttle safety authorisation to operate and safety certificate in line with ROGS (Railways & Other Guided Systems) to meet the requirements of the ORR.
- Accountable for ensuring that all of Gatwick's X‑ray screening equipment remains compliant in line with the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 and CAA requirements.
- Responsible for engineering’s safety improvement plan and setting EHS objectives for engineering each year.
- Sets yearly targets and objectives for each department in line with the business objectives.
- Responsible for managing all contracts and department budget ensuring Eng. OPS financial targets are achieved.
- Accountable for ensuring all core service standards are achieved by minimising asset downtime.
Qualifications
- Strong people leadership and influencing skills to communicate with all levels of the business and external stakeholders including government and regulatory bodies.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of working with unions and employee relations engagement.
- Proactive leadership to promote a strong health and safety culture, ensuring processes and procedures are fit for purpose and protecting employees and contractors.
- Commercially balanced – value focus on cost, process and people.
- Experience negotiating complex service contracts and meeting departmental budgetary targets.
- Strong understanding of ROGS (Railways & Other Guided Systems), Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 and BS 9999.
- Good working knowledge of Safe Systems of Work and regulatory and statutory compliance (e.g., electrical, confined spaces, hot works, etc.).
- Experience working with a CMMS and asset management processes including planning, KPIs (including CSS), PDRs, and asset management/replacement.
